Let me set this up for you:

We have a woman who is supposed to be the receptionist for our area. She is supposed to back us up when we are busy and help with traffic flow. She usually does not do either of these. She was out for a while….and it was FABULOUS. Yeah, we had to do her job, but it is evem more annying when she is HERE and we have to do her work. Today is was just like any other day…she talked on the phone or in the hall or even at her desk about her kids, family, back issues, and what ever else came up. Her boss was out at an event, but the rest of us were all still here and all still doing her job.

Then said useless receptionist had the nerve to tell a co-worker that she was “stuck here at the office by herself and doing everybody’s work.” Well about that time my boss, and I just about went Mount Saint Helens on her:

BOSS: Did she just say the she is the only one here today?
ME: why yes I think she did what are we? chopped liver?
BOSS: according to her, yes! And what about ****? She’s been here all day.
ME: Why yes she has been…wow Okay then….I’m over feeling bad about wishing she was still out sick. Seeing how we don’t count even though on a couple occasions already today I’ve gone out and waited on her student while she was too busy socializing to work
BOSS: She made a comment about doing data entry this morning and how she hadn’t gotten to it yet. But, she’s been on the phone most of the day. Wow!
ME: Exactly! Ugh! Can she be out sick again please?
BOSS: That’s just wishful thinking. I think she’s out of time.
ME: grrrr….well if she thinks she has had it rough today…I wonder what she would do if none of us were here to do her job? Which unless I’m hallucinating all three of us have
BOSS: Yeah, or if she had to do our jobs. When I talked to **** last night, she suggested having *** handle our area this morning. Umm. yeah… that would have gone over well. She would have been completely flabergasted by all the logins even if I explained it to her.
ME: No Kidding!

She really thinks she has it rough? She thinks she is so pick on, but really if she WORKED all this unfair work that is getting piled on her would be totally managable! And she wonders why she never gets ahead here! If you play by the rules and do your job well, it gets noticed and that is where the promotions come in. She doesn’t play by the rules. She doesn’t do her job well. Then she has the nerve to say otherwise…hmmm I wonder why she’s always overlooked?
