Pondering a next step

This may be a lesson for me:

Why is it that people get so attached to things that were never really theirs? I mean we all do it to a certain extent. We fall for the guy we know will never like us back, but then mourn like hell when he does date another girl…you get the picture.

Recently at work my boss and I had a little bit of a confrontation with our part timer. My part timer seems to think that my office is “our” office. It is “our” office, desk and computer. OK here is the deal…once upon a time she did have her own office, phone and computer…which BTW is UNHEARD OF for our part timers. Usually they are just ganted access to the full time employees work area. When we were moved she lost the office and the phone, but she got to keep the computer. My boss asked me to allow her to keep things in my office since she lost her space, and she took that ask permission to take over. I am supposed to be okay with anything she brings in, but she has no respect for my possessions. I tried to go to my boss about it, but she didn’t see how severe it was until yesterday. She rearranges my desk, moves my files and personal items and has her family call and takes other personal calls on my office line. Yesterday IT came down and asked her what her primary PC was (we are doing this computer migration thing). She told them my computer was her primary. Of course, IT told her she was wrong. She got herself all upset defending the fact that she “always” used my PC and needed to have administrative rights on it. Yeah, not so much. She has her own primary PC…she just doesn’t like to use it. Bascially IT told her it was my office, my desk and she was not going to have admin rights on my computer. She went to my boss to complain, and my boss pointed out that IT was right. As a part timer she did not have her own office, phone, and really she was lucky they let her keep the computer.  Plus since we have our new night time girl, she will be working days. That means she will basically only be at my workstation while I am at lunch. Of course the part timer was hurt and didn’t know why we were picking on her and taking mroe things away.  Honestly we weren’t. We were just pointing out reality: It is my office, my computer, and my desk. She has her OWN computer, and really that is more than most part timers get. She was foolish to lay claim to any of those things. They were never hers to start with.

Now I am stuck to make a decsion.  Is this whole situation harmless, or should I be worried this is could escalate? Yes, I already know she is agressive, and now my boss gets it too, but how far will it go. Plus, what could I have done differently to stop it from reaching this point?
