A Week in Review 9/26
I think I am going to start keeping track of the little things that happen throughout the week. You know the things that just kill me, but aren’t really enough to fill a whole single blog. I know the “requirements” for this site are only like 100 words, but I try not waste my readers’ time with short blogs with very little substance. Short blogs are fine as long as they have a good point. Today is going to be first stab at it, but since I just made this choice….well last night/this morning-ish , this could be a rocky start.
This week’s “You’ve got to be Kidding Me” moments:
1) A woman called me 15 times yesterday. I spoke to her 10 of those times. Each time she called, she asked to be transferred to Financial Aid, and each time I said I would be happy to transfer her, but I was not the switchboard so in the future she would need call them directly. I gave her the extension, and transferred her. Then she kept calling back…so after time 9, I started ignoring her calls. It was becoming quite apparent that the woman was too lazy to write down the number and was just going to rely on me doing the work for her. When I returned from lunch, she called me 5 more times. Finally I picked up the phone and told her that this was the last time I was transferring her. It was her responsibility to write down the number and call the department directly.
2) If you use someone else’s computer it is good form to LOG OUT of IM or other applications when you turn the computer back over. Reversely, I got a lesson in remembering to check these things.
3) If you use someone’s computer, don’t mess with the settings. This is even more true when really you should be logging in as yourself and not using the other person’s log in.
4) I know I have said this before, but this whole epidemic of people thinking it is okay to hand in half completed paperwork because “no one told them” to fill their personal information in just kills me. Do they assume I am going to fill it out for them? Have we officially put personal responsibility at the bottom of the priority list?
5) We are in the middle of migrating our computers to a new system. I’m the full time employee in my area. Like I have said before my part timers use my PC, but they have their own computer in our lab. My PC was migrated last Friday while I was on vacation, and I was made the primary user of my PC…as it should be. Now somehow the temporary IT guy they have helping with this seemed to think since my one part timer was at my desk (since I was out), it was her primary PC. Yeah…despite the work order he had just completed for me listed ME as the primary user.
Actual Conversation had it the Temp IT guy helping with the Migration:
Him: I need you to move
Me: Why?
Him: I messed up and I need to make (PT username) the primary on this computer.
Me: No you don’t this is my computer.
Him: Well she was on it last week.
Me: I was on vacation. She was using my computer hers is in the lab.
Him: I thought that was (PT 2’s user name) PC
Me: It is they work different shifts so they share it.
Him: I’m pretty certain this is (PT 1 username) computer.
Me: No, I’m the FULL TIME PERSON. This is my office, my desk and my computer.
Him: Well I was in this area a lot last week and she was always here.
Me: Once again I WAS ON VACATION. You know what just call Jay (the guy supervising this migration)
He calls Jay gets confirmation. Goes into the lab…comes back out
Him: so I need to make you an authorized user on this one too?
Me: No….
Him: Well you just said you all share this one too…
Me: No, I said the two part timers share that computer.
Him: Um aren’t you a part timer?
Me: NO! I am the full timer…remember? My office. My Computer. I never use that PC.
Yeah you get the point. This guy is just a moron…seriously I get that IT guys are not required to be people persons…but HOLY FREAKIN GEEZ. He had a work order with the RIGHT info on it and still managed to get it wrong.
Ok well I said this one might be weak…but eh it is a start. Thank you to my newly found regular readers. You Guys Rock! If you want to see the lighter side of Jen, keep an eye out for a new link to my Picture and Lighter Fare Blog!
