Full Moon??
Is it a full moon?
Yesterday, I had a student storm into my office and demanding I provide her with an official copy of her CAAP scores. I told the woman I could have her a copy of her scores from our system, but I did not have the official scores. We proctor the test, but the scores go to the Dean of Academic Affairs. That office provides us with a report of the scores so we can key it in. However, they get the official score sheets and they mail them out.
Apparently, this woman had her mail being sent to a wrong address, and it was returned to Ivy Tech. All returned mail is returned to the department it was sent from. It made sense she would come to us first. We gave her the test, it would make sense that we would have the results. I’m not faulting her there…it was the rest of the interaction that left me annoyed.
I told we did not mail the official results. The Dean of Academic handled that. She asked if I could call her and see if her scores were up there. I told her no, but I would be glad to give her the Dean’s Secretary’s info. She then asks me again to call her. Okay folks, if the scores have been returned they are in the Secretary’s office. If I call her, relay all the pertinent info, and tie up my phone line, she still has to locate the scores, and the woman will still need to go up stairs and get it. Meanwhile, I’m on hold and I cannot help any of my actual students, and no one can call in. Not to mention this fall under the umbrella of student responsibility. Had the college screwed up, I’d be more inclined, but she put down the wrong address.
I tell her no. It is her responsibility to follow up on the scores. She called me an expletive and left. Okay fine…
Later, 2 girls come in to “finish their tests.” I set them up, and then they get all upset when the server makes them start over. Come to find out, it has been over 30 days since they started the test, and now they are times out. Who really thinks it is okay to wait 30 days before returning to complete an entrance exam?
This morning the crazies strike again. A student had scheduled to take the CAAP. We had a 8:15 testing session. Once again, we have specific sessions at specific times. We are supposed to stick to those and I generally do (while other try to be over accommodating to the student and schedule the tests at bad times). We picked those times because of traffic patterns and staffing. Squeezing them in at other times isn’t always feasible, and once a session has started we can’t just start another session. The woman showed up around 8:45. The good news was she was my only scheduled tester, and I did not have anyone taking the placement test. I told she was in luck, had the circumstances been different, she would have had to wait or reschedule. That is when she rudely mentioned “Well that is why I called and left a voicemail.” I looked at my phone…there was no red light. I told her I didn’t have a voice mail, and all she snapped back was that she called the number she was told to call and left one. Fine…I get her started on her test and that is when my voice mail light turned red. It was a forwarded message from my boss. My boss is out of the office until Friday. She clearly states this on her outgoing message, and then tells them to call me. So she failed to listen and follow directions, and then was mad at me for not knowing she was going to be late…okay…
Some Updates from yesterday:
1) I’m still not sure how the little guy who got chomped by the kitten is doing. However, upon looking around I saw this wasn’t the first time this woman, her son, one of her birds, and her son’s cat have had issues. This woman was on her soapbox about how she has rules and they work, but obviously they do not.
2) The poisoned budgie sadly died. The poor thing had to suffer…and the worst part is, if the girl would have done something as soon as she saw there was a problem, the little guy could have made it.
3) My BBB complaint is still in process…I’m just waiting for now.
